Crib Goch Arete

Crib Goch Arete grade1 Scramble

Facing your fears with confidence

  • If you have never done Crib Goch and would like to see what it’s all about, then this is for you.
  • If you have done some scrambling but not sure about the exposure, then this is for you.
  • If you are Looking to do the Welsh 3000 challenge and your looking to get this one sorted, then this is for you.

Whatever your reason for taking this on, one thing you can be sure of is that you will have the best and a very experienced guide who not only knows the  terrain but also knows people, knows about their hopes and fears, How!…. well they were also at the same point once upon a time.

We always carry a “confidence” rope so if you feel more comfortable tethered to the guide to get around the small section then thats fine too.

The Gift Life Adventures guide will walk you through each step of the way, the do’s and don’ts of taking on Crib Goch and which section you can avoid.. To be honest you really do not need to be walking on the knife edge for most of it and even then you can avoid that too, people take videos with wide angle lens giving the feeling the whole of the Crib Goch is a knife edge, it most certainly is not.

The BMC, British Mountaineering Council) has a great video (below) but that is also showcasing the knife edge with the very confidant Dan Aspel however you will be able to see that to the left of the knife edge there is scope for scrambling to the left of the edge which many people do and there is nothing wrong with that, yes there is still a big drop but no where as bad as the vertical drop on the right hand side.

However, that said there are a few tricky bits that can be intimidating and yes dangerous too but with the help of a qualified guide from Gift Life Adventures with professional instruction you are guaranteed a memorable day for all the right reasons.

We recommend you have a good level of fitness before tackling this as it can be quite demanding on the body.

Even without the exposure, it’s still a challenging grade1 scramble and over a mile (1.6km) long so giving you plenty of this to practice and consolidate those techniques you will learn along the way.

Climbing Snowdon via Crib Goch is not for the faint-hearted. There is a serious drop on either side of the ridge and some basic grade one scrambling (using your hands for a few easy climbing moves) to get across.

There is a serious drop on either side of the ridge and some basic grade one scrambling (using your hands for a few easy climbing moves) to get across.

We recommend having a good general level of fitness, a head for heights and some experience of mountain walking as a base level of skill before attempting to traverse the ridge.

Your instructor will guide you along the route showing you the best and easiest way across, along with navigation should the visibility be poor.

A full kit list will be provided upon booking but participants should be prepared for a full mountain day of 6-8 hours.
