GLS Charity walk Route: Rhyd Ddu Path

GLS Charity walk Route: Rhyd Ddu Path

This is one of the lesser popular route to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) beginning at the small village of Rhyd Ddu

The Rhyd Ddu Path is one of two routes to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) that ascend the western slopes of the Snowdon massif. It offers striking mountain scenery, especially towards Moel Hebog and the hills of Nantlle.

The first mile climbs gradually along the old track that served the Bwlch Cwm Llan slate quarry before ascending steeply over rocky terrain to Llechog ridge. The path follows the ridge towards Bwlch Main then continues to meet up with Watkins path for the last couple of hundred meters before the final climb to the summit.

Some parts of Rhyd Ddu’s final section lead along a narrow and rocky path with steep slopes below. Extreme care must be taken on these parts.

Reaching the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is a challenging undertaking. The Snowdonia National Park Authority classifies all of the routes up  Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) as hard, strenuous routes. A good level of fitness is required, and navigation skills are essential

The idea is simple: you pick a route, make your £10 donation  via the “Count Me In” button and turn up… if all things go to plan as per Newton’s theory then we shall all meet at the top at the same time …or at least on the same day unless Murphy’s law prevails LOL..

Hopefully we can arrive at similar times and have a coffee if the cafe is open although we do encourage you to bring your own hot/cold drinks .

A full packing list will be emailed to you a week before the event so please make sure you can receive emails from Gift Life Saturday.

Duration: 6-7hrs.
Distance: 12 km (8miles)
Fitness Level: Good
Difficulty Level: Hard.
Age: Over 18’s can bring +1 have to be 15 or over

Charity: Llanberis Mountain Rescue

Our chosen charity for this month is Llanberis Mountain Rescue.

All the mountain rescues around the UK are run on a voluntary basis and they rely on donations from people like you and me to meet the running costs of vehicles, helicopters (generally shared) and equipment.

Most of us have watched these people in action from afar but few of us have seen them up close and personal.

The dedication and courage they display leaves us all in awe and very grateful indeed. They drop everything, leave their loved ones, put their own lives in danger to rescue those who they have never met and perhaps will never meet again.
