GLS Charity Walk Route: The Miners’ Route

GLS Charity Walk Route: The Miners’ Route

From Pen y Pass car park, the Miners Track is one of three paths beginning at Pen y Pass. The Miners’ track was initially built to serve the Britannia Copper Mine and is the second longest, despite this you are already a couple of hundred meters higher than the starting point for Lllanberis Route.

Beginning from Pen y Pass you will pass what remains of the disused buildings when copper was mined here. The track will take you along the shores of Llyn Teyrn, Llyn Llydaw and Llyn Glaslyn before ascending steeply to meet up with the Pyg Track at around 760M then continuing on to meet the Llanberis Path to the summit of yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) at 1085M (3,560ft).

The last half of the route is challenging and steep ascent that requires navigating loose rock and scree.

The idea is simple: you pick a route, make your £10 donation  via the “Count Me In” button and turn up… if all things go to plan as per Newton’s theory then we shall all meet at the top at the same time …or at least on the same day unless Murphy’s law prevails LOL..

Hopefully we can arrive at similar times and have a coffee if the cafe is open although we do encourage you to bring your own hot/cold drinks .

A full packing list will be emailed to you a week before the event so please make sure you can receive emails from Gift Life Saturday.

Charity: Llanberis Mountain Rescue

Our chosen charity for this month is Llanberis Mountain Rescue.

All the mountain rescue’s around the UK are run on a voluntary basis and they rely on donations from people like you and me to meet the running costs of vehicles, helicopters (generally shared) and equipment.

Most of us have watched these people in action from afar but few of us have seen them up close and personal.

The dedication and courage they display leaves us all in our and very grateful indeed. They drop everything, leave their loved ones, put their own lives in danger to rescue those who they have never met and perhaps will never meet again.
